Retatrutide is the most talked about weight loss compound in Canada right now, and almost none of what people want to know about it is on the pages that rank for it. This covers the part that actually matters: whether you can get it here, where approval stands after the 2026 trial results, what Health Canada has said about the online peptide market, and what it costs.

The short answer: retatrutide is not approved in Canada, or anywhere else, for any use. It is an Eli Lilly investigational drug still working through Phase 3 trials. You cannot get it from a Canadian pharmacy with a prescription, because there is nothing for a doctor to prescribe yet.

Is retatrutide available in Canada?

Not as an approved medicine. Health Canada has not authorized retatrutide, and neither has the FDA. There is no Drug Identification Number for it, no pharmacy stocks it, and no doctor can write you a script for it.

There are two ways people in Canada come into contact with it today:

  • Eli Lilly’s clinical trials. Lilly runs retatrutide studies at Canadian sites, and you can look up recruiting trials on their Canadian trial listings. This is the only route where the drug is supervised, free, and legitimately sourced.
  • The research peptide market. Retatrutide is sold online by peptide suppliers, labelled for laboratory research and not for human use. That is the market this shop operates in, and the honest framing is below.

Where approval actually stands

This is where most pages on this topic are a year out of date. They still quote the 2023 Phase 2 numbers. The Phase 3 programme has since read out, and the numbers went up.

TrialWhoResultReported
TRIUMPH-12,339 adults with obesity, no diabetes28.3% average weight loss at 80 weeks on 12mg, about 70 lbs. 25.9% on 9mg, 19.0% on 4mg, against 2.2% on placeboMay 2026
TRIUMPH-4Obesity plus knee osteoarthritis28.7% average weight loss at 68 weeks on 12mgDecember 2025
TRANSCEND-T2D-1Adults with type 2 diabetes16.8% average weight loss at 40 weeks on 12mgMarch 2026

For scale, semaglutide trials landed around 15% and tirzepatide around 21% in comparable populations. Retatrutide at 28.3% is the largest weight loss figure any obesity drug has produced in a Phase 3 trial. That is the entire reason for the attention.

Lilly is expected to file with the FDA in late 2026. On a standard review that puts a possible US approval somewhere in 2027. Health Canada approval would come after that, not before, and typically lags the FDA by a year or more on this class. Anyone telling you retatrutide will be in Canadian pharmacies in 2026 is guessing, and guessing wrong.

The reason it outperforms is mechanical. Semaglutide hits one receptor, tirzepatide hits two, retatrutide hits three: GLP-1, GIP and glucagon. That third one, the glucagon receptor, raises energy expenditure rather than just suppressing appetite. There is a full breakdown of the mechanism in our Retatrutide Master Guide, and a wider explainer in how GLP-1s work.

What Health Canada has said

You should know this before you buy anything, from us or anyone else.

Health Canada issued a public advisory on unauthorized injectable peptides, last updated April 2026. It warns against buying and injecting peptides sold online and names retatrutide directly, alongside BPC-157, CJC-1295, TB-500, ipamorelin, MOTS-C, NAD+, melanotan, GHK-Cu, epitalon, DSIP, KPV and HCG, as examples of unauthorized products it has seized.

Its position is that peptides in Canada are generally regulated as prescription drugs, that authorized drugs carry an 8-digit DIN on the label, and that unauthorized products have not been assessed for safety, efficacy or quality. You can read it in full on the Government of Canada recalls and safety alerts site.

We are not going to pretend that advisory does not exist or that it does not apply to what we sell. It does. Retatrutide sold here, and everywhere else online, is a research compound. It has no DIN, it is not a licensed medicine, and it has not been reviewed by Health Canada.

What we will tell you is what to look at if you are going to buy peptides online regardless, because the difference between suppliers is real:

  • Third party purity testing. Ask for a certificate of analysis with a recent date and a batch number that matches your vial. A supplier who cannot produce one is selling you an unknown.
  • Reconstitution and storage. Lyophilised peptide is stable at room temperature. Once mixed it needs refrigeration and has a limited life. Anything shipped pre-mixed is a red flag.
  • Dose accuracy. Underfilled vials are the most common way this market cheats. Independent testing is the only way to know.
  • Talk to a doctor. Genuinely. GLP-1 drugs interact with a long list of conditions and medications, and the trial data above came from supervised patients with bloodwork and titration, not people guessing at home.

What retatrutide costs in Canada

There is no pharmacy price, because there is no pharmacy product. Research market pricing in Canada currently runs roughly $150 to $400 per 10mg vial depending on supplier and quantity.

Ours is Retatrutide 10mg, from $170, available in 10mg and 30mg, shipped within Canada or to the USA.

For comparison, once retatrutide is approved, expect it to be priced like its siblings. Branded GLP-1s in Canada run several hundred dollars a month without private coverage, and provincial plans have been slow to list them for weight loss alone.

If you are choosing between the first two, we put the head to head numbers in semaglutide vs tirzepatide. Worth reading alongside that: do GLP-1s cause bone density loss, because rapid weight loss on any of these three costs you lean mass unless you train and eat for it.

Common questions

When will retatrutide be available in Canada?

No date has been set. Lilly is expected to file with the FDA in late 2026, US approval could follow in 2027, and Health Canada would come after that. A realistic Canadian pharmacy availability window is 2027 at the earliest, and that assumes the filing goes smoothly.

Is retatrutide legal in Canada?

It is not an authorized drug, which means it cannot be legally sold or advertised for human use in Canada. It is sold as a research compound. Possession for personal use is not what Health Canada targets; its enforcement is aimed at unauthorized sale and import.

How do I get retatrutide in Canada?

Two routes. Enrol in a Lilly clinical trial, which is supervised and free but has strict eligibility criteria and you may receive placebo. Or buy it on the research peptide market, which is unsupervised, unregulated and carries the risks in the Health Canada advisory above.

Is retatrutide stronger than Ozempic?

In trials, considerably. 28.3% average weight loss against roughly 15% for semaglutide. Different trials with different populations are never a perfect comparison, but the gap is large enough that the direction is not in question.

What are the side effects?

The trial profile is mostly gastrointestinal: nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and constipation, worst during dose escalation. Elevated heart rate was also observed. Like every drug in this class it causes lean mass loss alongside fat loss. The master guide covers the safety data in detail.

Can my doctor prescribe it?

No. There is no approved product to prescribe. A doctor can prescribe semaglutide or tirzepatide, both of which are authorized in Canada and both of which have real safety monitoring behind them.

The bottom line

Retatrutide has the best Phase 3 obesity numbers anyone has produced, and it is still at least a year from a Canadian pharmacy shelf. Everything sold online today, ours included, is an unapproved research compound that Health Canada has publicly warned about. If you want the supervised route, look at a clinical trial or talk to a doctor about the two drugs that are actually approved here. If you are going ahead anyway, buy on tested purity and talk to a physician first.
